I-PEX Launches “noseStick BB” Odor Sensor with Wireless Connectivity and Enhanced Versatility

Kyoto, Japan – February 17, 2026 – I-PEX Corporation has announced the launch of its latest odor sensor model, “noseStick BB” (noseStick Bee Bee), on February 1, 2026. This new product introduces Bluetooth® Low Energy wireless capabilities and battery operation, greatly improving installation flexibility.

Furthermore, the “noseStick BB” is equipped with a microphone and gyro sensor, and its software now supports iOS, in addition to Windows and Android. These advancements enable the sensor to be utilized in a wider range of applications and environments than previous models.

Background of “noseStick BB” Development

I-PEX aims to achieve the social implementation of odor sensing technology through the development and provision of its odor sensor series, which includes “nose@MEMS” and “noseStick.” Previous odor sensor products primarily focused on wired measurements, which presented challenges regarding installation locations.

To overcome these limitations, the “noseStick BB” was developed to offer wireless connectivity via Bluetooth® Low Energy and battery power, providing significantly greater freedom in placement. Software compatibility has also been extended to iOS, alongside existing Windows and Android support.

In conjunction with the “noseStick BB” release, two new New Sensor Modules (NSMs) have also been introduced. These modules combine elements that react effectively to either water-insoluble or water-soluble gases. These initiatives are expected to broaden the potential applications of odor sensing technology, including the detection of unusual odors in factory equipment, status monitoring in nursing and healthcare, and evaluation of in-car environments in mobility solutions. I-PEX continues to promote the social implementation of odor sensing.

Features of “noseStick BB”

  • Wireless Connectivity via Bluetooth® Low Energy: Traditional noseStick models required wired connections, which could be cumbersome for installation and wiring in certain locations. “noseStick BB” enables wireless connection, simplifying deployment in hard-to-wire areas.

  • Battery-Powered Operation: Sensing is now possible in environments where securing a power source is difficult, increasing installation flexibility. This feature also facilitates short-term on-site verification and evaluations involving layout changes.

  • iOS Compatibility: With support for Windows, Android, and now iOS, users have a wider selection of compatible devices.

  • Integrated Microphone, Gyro Sensor, and Temperature/Humidity Sensor: By leveraging the API, users can obtain environmental information in addition to odor sensing data. This allows for verification and application development based on comprehensive environmental conditions.

About I-PEX Odor Sensors

I-PEX odor sensors identify odors by recognizing the “pattern of odor molecules” detected by multiple sensing elements. These sensors utilize piezoelectric thin films of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) coated with different sensitive membranes on a sensor chip. Odor molecules adhere to the resonating sensitive film when voltage is applied, and numerical data is acquired from changes in the resonance frequency. Odors are then identified by matching these patterns. The use of MEMS with PZT piezoelectric thin films allows for miniaturization and cost reduction, and increasing the number of sensing elements enables the identification of a wider range of odors.

I-PEX Sensor Products

I-PEX develops unique sensing technologies, offering a range of sensors that contribute to collaboration and safety. These include the “ESTORQ®” series of torque sensors, which detect human contact with robots, and “Smart Cloth,” which non-contactually detects proximity. Additionally, I-PEX provides odor sensors like “nose@MEMS®” and “noseStick®,” which leverage MEMS technology to detect odors. These solutions create unprecedented value, contributing to safety and comfort across various applications, from industrial and consumer sectors to mobility.
