Sign House Adopts Hitachi Solutions Technology’s Multilingual Voice Command Recognition Software “Ruby Spotter” for Next-Generation Motorcycle Intercom “B+COM 7X EVO”
Hitachi Solutions Technology’s multilingual voice command recognition software, “Ruby Spotter,” has been adopted by Sign House for its “B+COM 7X EVO” next-generation motorcycle intercom system. This integration allows riders to operate the intercom intuitively without removing their hands from the handlebars, enhancing focus on riding.
When the voice trigger function is activated, riders can initiate voice operations by saying the wake-up word “Hey, B+COM.” Subsequent voice commands are then recognized, enabling seamless control. “Ruby Spotter” facilitates the recognition of both the wake-up word and subsequent voice commands, ensuring high noise immunity and recognition performance even amidst the severe wind and road noise encountered during motorcycle riding. This significantly contributes to the improved convenience of voice operation in motorcycle intercoms.

Background and Challenges
Enhancing the convenience of voice operation in motorcycle intercoms presented significant challenges, particularly in ensuring noise immunity during riding and maintaining high voice recognition accuracy. Additionally, it was necessary to address system resource constraints, plan for multilingual support for future international expansion, and consider post-implementation support. The following challenges required a robust voice recognition solution:
- High noise immunity and recognition performance capable of withstanding the harsh noise conditions during motorcycle riding.
- A low-resource design that can operate under strict system resource constraints without requiring a network connection.
- Support for a wide range of languages, anticipating future global market expansion.
- A comprehensive support system for adjusting and tuning recognition accuracy even after deployment.
Reasons for Adoption and System Benefits
-
High Noise Immunity and Recognition Accuracy
“Ruby Spotter” allows for the setting of arbitrary wake-up words and achieves high recognition accuracy even in harsh environments with wind and road noise during motorcycle riding. This has improved the convenience of voice operation for motorcycle intercoms. -
Standalone Intercom Operation with Low-Resource Design
“Ruby Spotter” is characterized by its low-resource design, enabling operation even in environments with limited system resources. It achieves voice operation solely within the intercom unit, without requiring a network connection. -
Multilingual Support
The capability of “Ruby Spotter” to support over 40 languages was highly evaluated, aligning with plans for future international expansion. -
Flexible Tuning Support and Maintenance System
The flexible support system, including recognition accuracy adjustments and tuning from the testing phase through to deployment, also received high praise.

Comment from Hiroshi Shibahara, Planning Department, Sign House Co., Ltd.
Mr. Hiroshi Shibahara of Sign House Co., Ltd. stated, “Sign House has incorporated voice command recognition technology for the first time into ‘B+COM 7X EVO,’ the latest high-end model of our motorcycle intercom brand ‘B+COM.’ This technology allows riders to operate the device without taking their hands off the handlebars while riding, enabling greater concentration on their ride than ever before.”
He continued, “As B+COM products are worn on helmets, they must be small and lightweight. Furthermore, given their use in the unique noisy environment of riding, key requirements for adopting voice command recognition technology included low power consumption, accurate command recognition in noisy conditions, and easy customization of commands. ‘Ruby Spotter’ met all these requirements, and its ability to maximize performance even in limited resource environments was a decisive factor in its adoption. Additionally, the availability of a user-friendly tuning tool and the meticulous support from the engineers facilitated smooth product development. We anticipate that ‘B+COM 7X EVO’ will further contribute to our customers’ riding lives as a motorcycle intercom that is even more attuned to riders’ needs.”
Hitachi Solutions Technology will continue to work on realizing voice communication functions and improving operability, supporting customers’ optimal manufacturing processes.
