World’s First Belt-Type Sensing Wearable Device “VITAL BELT” to be Unveiled at CES 2026

株式会社 D.O.N, known for its inner down brand “TAION,” is set to unveil “VITAL BELT,” the world’s first abdominal belt-type sensing wearable device, at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. This next-generation healthcare device is designed for non-invasive acquisition of biological data, merging apparel concepts with cutting-edge millimeter-wave sensing technology to introduce a new approach to health monitoring through a belt.

Development Background: Addressing an Aging Society and Increasing Medical Burden

For ten years, TAION has grown its brand, primarily with inner down, and has introduced new value to clothing, such as down wear equipped with heating modules. In exploring new gadgets, the company identified a strong need for “wearables that monitor the body daily,” driven by societal challenges such as an increasing medical burden, a super-aging society, and a heightened awareness of self-care. This led to the development of a device focused on the abdominal area.

Abdominal Sensing: A Belt-Type Device

“VITAL BELT” is the world’s first device to perform millimeter-wave sensing from the belt position. Unlike conventional smartwatches or ring-type devices that require close skin contact, “VITAL BELT” can measure respiration, pulse, and body movement even over clothing. The concept of irradiating millimeter waves at close range to sense body movement is a novel approach, enabling the visualization of biological information that was previously difficult to acquire. The methods for attaching the vital sensor at the belt position are protected by multiple patents (IP).

User Interface and Customization

“VITAL BELT” features an intuitive user interface and a natural fit design utilizing neodymium magnets for attachment and detachment. The buckle (sensing device) and belt (base plate) have a separate structure. The buckle can be detached for charging, while the belt can continue to be used as a regular belt. Furthermore, the belt’s design, material, and color can be freely customized, allowing for an accessory-like personalization that fuses wearables with fashion.

New Possibilities for Health Analysis

By cross-analyzing information obtained from wrist or finger wearables with data such as respiration from “VITAL BELT,” it is likely that more precise health management can be achieved. The aim is to quickly detect subtle changes in the body, such as a user’s breathing status, signs of stress, or posture imbalances.

In the future, leveraging its abdominal position, the device is considered to have potential for expansion into medical and wellness fields, including:

  • Fetal and gut environment observation

  • Cell activation through frequency approaches that raise deep body temperature

  • Conditioning applying the brain-gut axis

Application Features

The “VITAL BELT” application performs user authentication and calibration upon access to achieve optimized data acquisition for each individual. In addition to health management utilizing respiration, pulse, and sleep data, it is envisioned that the app will offer recommendations and behavioral suggestions based on accumulated data.

Potential application areas for the breathing app include:

  • Health & Wellness Apps: Yoga breathing, beauty breathing, meditation breathing

  • Concentration Apps: Concentration breathing, stress reduction breathing, emotion analysis

The device can also be used for real-time safety support, such as detecting stair climbing by elderly individuals and issuing alerts based on environmental conditions.

Achievements and Future Outlook

In 2023, a principle prototype sample and solutions were presented at the Smart Sensing Exhibition / Microwave Exhibition, attracting numerous inquiries from companies. While challenges remain in communication methods and noise processing, development is currently underway to address these issues.

Moving forward, the company plans to enhance accuracy and usability through POC (Proof of Concept) and user tests, progressing towards test sales for OEM partners. For corporate clients, development of an application for management centers, such as employee health monitoring, is also in progress. For general users, the company aims to develop and expand new businesses by forming partnerships with large market companies and organizations.

“VITAL BELT” aims to realize a future where “clothing monitors the body” by integrating apparel and technology.
