OPPO and MediaTek Unveil Latest On-Device AI Innovations at MWC 2026
OPPO and MediaTek presented their latest on-device AI technologies at the “AI for Life” keynote hosted by MediaTek during Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, on March 4, 2026. Jason Liao, President of OPPO Research Institute, detailed how the close collaboration between the two companies is accelerating the evolution of AI features integrated into smartphones.
The event showcased the deployment of new on-device AI functionalities, progress on the jointly developed “Omni Model,” and advancements in cross-ecosystem collaboration, outlining the vision for the next generation of AI smartphones.
Elevating User Experience with On-Device AI
As mobile experiences become increasingly AI-centric, OPPO is advancing its AI strategy built on three pillars: New Computing, New Perception, and New Ecosystem. At the core of this strategy is on-device computing, designed to deliver low-latency, privacy-protected, and personalized AI experiences. Jason Liao stated that on-device computing is central to OPPO’s AI strategy, aiming to integrate AI into daily life and evolve it into a real-time, “tangible” experience. OPPO and MediaTek share this vision, working closely in the development of flagship chips to transform on-device AI from a mere technical concept into a practical and widely deployable stage.
Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, OPPO’s self-developed on-device AI Translate and AI Portrait Glow achieve performance comparable to cloud-based AI functions. These features are slated for rollout to the OPPO Find X9 series through an upcoming ColorOS 16 update.
On-device AI Translate operates directly on the device, demonstrating an average accuracy improvement of 15% compared to conventional methods. It supports seamless translation between multiple languages and maintains stable performance even without an internet connection or in unstable communication environments, ensuring reliable translation in various scenarios.
AI Portrait Glow, on the other hand, enhances the quality of portraits taken in complex lighting conditions. It analyzes the lighting of the scene and adjusts brightness and shadows naturally, improving image quality in low-light or backlit conditions without appearing artificial. This feature also functions offline. Demonstrations highlighted its ability to provide visually natural corrections across diverse scenes.

Furthermore, OPPO and MediaTek unveiled a technical preview of “Omni Model,” described as the industry’s first fully on-device multi-modal AI model. Omni is designed to understand and interact naturally with users by processing multiple types of information, including voice, video, and text. It supports voice, video, and text input, enabling real-time scene recognition and interactive Q&A directly on the smartphone. This advancement allows on-device AI to perceive and understand the real world more deeply, leading to more proactive and natural human-device interactions.

Accelerating AI Innovation Through Ecosystem Collaboration
This collaboration was also showcased in the interactive experience zone at the MediaTek booth. Visitors had the opportunity to experience the on-device AI features of the Find X9 Pro, as well as the telephoto performance enabled by the OPPO Hasselblad Teleconverter. The Reno15 Pro was also on display, featuring creative AI photography functions such as AI Motion Photo Eraser, AI Motion Photo Pop-Out, and AI Flash Photography.

In the OPPO Find X9, close collaboration among MediaTek, Google, and OPPO has extended the Quick Share function, previously exclusive to Android™ devices, to support AirDrop. This enables secure and smooth file transfers between OPPO smartphones and iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices without the need for third-party app installations, enhancing cross-platform convenience.
Additionally, the OPPO Find X9 Pro was nominated for the “Best Smartphone” category at the GLOMO Awards, recognizing its innovation in performance, imaging, and AI integration.
OPPO and MediaTek plan to further strengthen their collaboration in advanced areas, including on-device AI, to continually enhance user experiences. Both companies remain committed to delivering more advanced and reliable AI experiences to users worldwide.
Note: The availability of AI features may vary by country and region.
