The Legacy of the 1976 “OKEAN”

The original “OKEAN” chronograph, featuring the 3133 movement, began production in 1976 for Soviet naval officers. Named “OKEAN” (Russian for Ocean), this watch was celebrated for its telemeter function, becoming a legendary instrument for the Soviet Navy.

Production ceased during the Soviet era, making the original “OKEAN” a highly sought-after collector’s item due to its scarcity.

Movement and Modern Enhancements

While the original 3133 chronograph movement is no longer produced, this 50th-anniversary model is powered by the Cal.31679 movement, which is even rarer and includes a hacking function. The original movement was a significant development, completed in 1974.

This new “OKEAN” model represents a significant evolution from the 2019 iteration. The 2019 model featured an inner rotating bezel and a 316L stainless steel case. In contrast, the new release adopts a fixed bezel, eliminating the inner bezel control crown, and utilizes a lightweight yet durable titanium case.

The case back is engraved with “1976-2026,” marking its 50th anniversary, along with a unique serial number.

Refined Design and Superior Legibility

The design has been meticulously re-evaluated to enhance both legibility and overall craftsmanship. Key improvements include:

  • Fixed bezel with Arabic numerals at the 12 o’clock position

  • Removal of the inner bezel operating crown

  • Optimized telemeter scale

  • Redesigned minute scale

  • Larger and three-dimensional indices

  • Deeper sub-dials with a concentric finish

  • Metallized dial (silver/blue)

These enhancements ensure that the watch retains its classic aesthetic while offering modern visibility and balance.

Titanium Case and Limited Availability

The adoption of a titanium case provides exceptional durability while maintaining a lightweight profile. The combination of hairline and polished finishes lends a sophisticated, premium feel.

This model is a strictly limited edition, with only 200 units available worldwide, and no plans for future re-production. Pre-orders are currently being accepted and will close once the allocated quantity is reached.

The selling price is 297,000 JPY (tax included), though this price may be subject to change due to exchange rate fluctuations. This pricing reflects the watch’s titanium case, limited availability, and rich historical background, offering a balance of collectibility and practicality.

The “OKEAN” Reborn

This new model is more than just a re-issue; it represents a fusion of STURMANSKIE’s enduring military watch design philosophy, chronograph functionality, and modern adaptability.
