Development Background

The inspiration for “CIO Cerberus” came from a video by Mr. Horiguchi of monograph, titled “A Desk with Nothing on It.” Mr. Horiguchi’s philosophy, “I consider my desk a cutting board. It’s a place for work, so I bring materials here to work, but once I’m done, those materials must be returned to their original place,” perfectly aligns with this product’s concept.

Upon publishing a video about Cerberus on YouTube, Mr. Horiguchi reportedly received numerous production offers from various companies. However, Cerberus is not a standalone cord reel product. Instead of simply replicating the existing form, Mr. Horiguchi felt that CIO could provide an optimal total solution, including an AC charger to supply power to the cables and extension cables for wiring management under the desk. With this sentiment, CIO took on the project.

Cord-Reel Charging Base to Minimize Cable Presence on Desks

This product integrates three cord reels into a single cradle, which can be installed on the side or under the desk. Cables are kept out of sight yet easily accessible when needed. It serves as a charging base under the desk, balancing “hiding” and “ease of use.”

Consolidate Charging for Multiple Devices

For charging environments where one cable is insufficient, such as for PCs, smartphones, tablets, and earphones on a desk, or for multiple family devices, this system transforms a potentially cluttered setup with three cables into a convenient and organized one.

Chargers and Wiring Under the Desk

By grouping chargers and extension cables under the desk, users can achieve an environment where no unnecessary wiring is visible on the desktop, with cables only pulled out when required.

Designed for Intuitive Use

The USB-C connector is designed to smoothly pop up when flicked with a finger, making it easy to pull out. The unique design ensures that when seated, lowering one’s arm naturally aligns with the angle for pulling out the cable.

Max 100W USB-C Cable

The cord reel cables are USB-C to USB-C, supporting USB Power Delivery 3.0. They are compatible with charging up to 100W, making them suitable for charging not only smartphones but also laptops, offering a practical and tidy charging solution for any desk.

Independent Cable Design for Standalone Use

Each cord reel cable can be used independently when detached from the cradle. This design allows for easy replacement or addition of individual cables in case of damage or increased need, ensuring long-term usability.

Each cable reel is compact, fitting in the palm of a hand with dimensions under 6 cm in length and width. Its contained shape allows for easy portability in a pouch or bag. The single-pull cord reel extends approximately 68 cm, providing ample cable length for use both at the front and back of the desk.

Meticulous Design Details

The USB-C connectors feature CIO’s corporate color, purple. Each cable is adorned with a CIO logo on a high-quality aluminum plate. The exterior casing incorporates a textured finish, similar to those found on DSLR cameras.

CIO Cerberus is designed not only as an integral part of interior decor but also with portability in mind for its cord reel sections. Therefore, its design prioritizes not only a luxurious appearance but also resistance to dirt, fingerprints, and scratches, ensuring long-lasting enjoyment.

Two Installation Methods: Magnet and Adhesive

The bottom of the cradle features magnets for easy installation on steel desks. For environments where magnets cannot be used, such as wooden desks, a dedicated double-sided adhesive sticker (3M) is included. This sticker is custom-sized to fit perfectly within the magnetic area, allowing for smart and secure installation regardless of the desk material.
