Advanced Features for Next-Generation IoT

The nRF54L15 Tag integrates Nordic’s ultra-low-power Bluetooth SoC, the nRF54L15. This SoC features the next-generation 2.4 GHz radio and a high-performance processor from the nRF54L Series, providing both exceptional processing power and ultra-low power consumption. Its dual-antenna configuration enhances the accuracy and reliability of distance measurement via Bluetooth Channel Sounding. Equipped with various sensors, the platform is also suitable for prototyping edge AI and Matter-enabled applications.

Power is supplied by a CR2032 coin cell battery, enabling extended battery life. A low-power accelerometer wakes up the system upon detecting movement, while maintaining a deep sleep state otherwise, which significantly reduces power consumption while preserving responsiveness.

Petter Myhre, Product Marketing Director at Nordic Semiconductor, stated, “User-participating finding networks like Apple Find My and Google Find Hub are becoming essential features for many consumer IoT products, not just asset tracking tags and Bluetooth trackers. The nRF54L15 Tag was designed to accelerate product development leveraging these technologies. It is positioned as a hardware platform that complements Nordic’s existing SDKs for Apple Find My and Google Find Hub.”

Dual Ecosystem Support: Apple Find My and Google Find Hub

The nRF54L15 Tag combines communication functions, various sensors, and processing performance in a compact form factor, significantly reducing the development time for low-power IoT devices. Both Apple Find My and Google Find Hub are crowd-sourced finding networks that utilize Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) and nearby smartphones to locate tags without GPS. Nordic supports both ecosystems through its ultra-low-power SoCs and the nRF Connect SDK, which includes sample code for developing locator tags for Apple Find My and Google Find Hub.

The nRF54L15 Tag offers long battery life, a compact design, and high-accuracy distance detection suitable for asset tracking applications. Furthermore, it supports edge AI applications like gesture recognition and anomaly detection using its built-in 6-axis IMU. Its large memory capacity also allows for sophisticated product designs that simultaneously support both Apple Find My and Google Find Hub networks.

Bluetooth Channel Sounding provides high-accuracy and secure distance measurement, further improving the precision of item finding and location detection.

High-Precision Positioning with Bluetooth Channel Sounding

The nRF54L15 Tag can also be used as an evaluation platform for Bluetooth Channel Sounding, which is supported by Bluetooth 6.0. It integrates the latest radio technology of the nRF54L Series into a compact, battery-powered device, enabling rapid evaluation of high-accuracy and secure distance measurement in real-world environments.

As part of Nordic’s end-to-end development environment, the nRF54L15 Tag supports the nRF Connect SDK, certified protocol stacks, ready-to-use sample code, and test and application development tools. This combination of hardware, software, and development ecosystem allows developers to transition seamlessly from Bluetooth Channel Sounding-based prototyping to product design for mass production.

Ideal for Prototyping Matter-Enabled Smart Home Devices

The nRF54L15 Tag is also well-suited for prototyping Matter-enabled smart home devices. Its built-in environmental sensors can measure atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity, and gas concentration (including CO₂), making it useful for developing devices such as Matter-compatible weather stations. Standard support for Matter over Thread also enables rapid construction of smart home PoCs.

Broad Multiprotocol Support

With a compact design of 33mm in diameter, the platform is suitable for prototyping tags, Bluetooth trackers, remote controls, and wearable devices. In addition to Bluetooth LE and Bluetooth Channel Sounding, it supports Matter over Thread, Zigbee, Bluetooth Mesh, Amazon Sidewalk, and proprietary 2.4 GHz protocols, achieving high-speed communication of up to 4 Mbps.

Ready for Immediate Development

The nRF54L15 Tag comes pre-programmed with firmware, and documentation, schematics, bill of materials, Gerber data, and layout files are provided. Programming and debugging can be performed by connecting it to the DEBUG OUT port of an nRF54L Series development kit, and it supports Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware updates. Furthermore, functionality can be easily expanded by adding sensors, LEDs, or buttons using the GPIO pins.

Availability

The nRF54L15 Tag is available through Nordic’s domestic distributors. For more details and purchasing information, please visit the nRF54L15 Tag product page on Nordic Semiconductor’s website.
