HomeLink App Now Integrates with Tesla Vehicles in Japan

Tokyo, Japan – July 13, 2026 – Link Japan Inc., a developer and provider of the AI x IoT smart home platform “HomeLink,” has announced the release of HomeLink app Ver.22.0. This update enables, for the first time in Japan (according to Link Japan research, July 2026), the monitoring and operation of Tesla vehicles from within the HomeLink smart home integration app.

With this update, Tesla vehicles appear on the HomeLink’s top screen alongside home appliances and residential equipment such as lighting and air conditioners. Users can now lock/unlock doors, turn the air conditioning (A/C) ON/OFF, and check the remaining driving range with the same intuitive operation as controlling other smart home devices.

In the midst of continuous heatwaves, this feature allows users to activate their car’s air conditioner remotely from their smartphone before getting in, using the same interface they use for their home air conditioner.

Key Features of This Update

  • Integrated Control: Tesla vehicle status and operations are accessible from the HomeLink app’s top screen, offering a unified control experience with home appliances and residential equipment.

  • Lock/Unlock: Users can check the locking status and operate the locks remotely.

  • Air Conditioning (A/C) ON/OFF: Pre-start the car’s climate control before getting in.

  • Driving Range Check: Quickly view the remaining driving range on the top screen.

  • Detailed Control: A dedicated screen allows for checking and adjusting the in-car temperature.

  • In-Car Home Control: HomeLink-compatible home appliances and residential equipment can be operated from Tesla’s large in-car monitor, enabling actions like turning on home air conditioning or lighting before arriving home.

Usage Scenarios

  • Pre-cooling for Hot Days: On sweltering days, users can activate their car’s air conditioner five minutes before departure, ensuring a cool interior upon entry. This is done through the same interface as controlling home air conditioners.

  • Remote Lock Confirmation: If unsure whether the car is locked after leaving, users can check the status on the HomeLink app’s top screen and lock it remotely. This integrates car security with home security monitoring.

  • Evening Planning: Before bed, users can check the Tesla’s remaining range on HomeLink to decide if charging is needed for the next day’s plans.

  • Home Preparation from the Car: While driving home, users can use the Tesla’s large monitor to operate HomeLink-compatible devices, such as turning on the home air conditioner or lights.

Tesla Smart Home Integration

Link Japan’s Challenge: Connecting the Unconnected

Link Japan was founded in 2014 as Japan’s first dedicated IoT smart home company (according to Link Japan research at the time of announcement), even before the term “smart home” became widely known. The company’s mission has always been to connect “what no one else has connected” within the home. This integration with Tesla vehicles is an extension of that challenge.

From a daily life perspective, a car is an extension of the home, akin to “another room” adjacent to the entrance. However, in the world of applications, it has long remained separate. This new functionality breaks that boundary, taking the first step beyond the walls of the residence. It aims to add another “necessary given” rather than a flashy future.

Behind the Development: The Car as Another Room

HomeLink has been developed with the goal of becoming the “OS for the home,” integrating various appliances and residential equipment into a single app. Over 12 years, devices like locks, water heaters, lighting, air conditioners, and curtains have been steadily connected.

A persistent challenge for Link Japan has been that the car, parked outside the front door, remained “outside the home.” For many users, the car interior is an integral part of their daily life. While the car is physically connected to the home’s living space, it has been a completely separate world in the app experience.

The difficulty in integrating Tesla vehicles was not just about adding features, but about preserving “HomeLink’s identity.” The development team insisted on having the Tesla appear on the same screen as lighting and air conditioners, with the same interface, rather than isolating it on a separate, dedicated screen. From the user’s perspective, a Tesla vehicle is simply “one more compatible device.” This seemingly “natural integration” is the culmination of the design philosophy of a team that has refined its smart home integration app for 12 years.

About the Smart Home Integration App “HomeLink”

HomeLink is a smart home integration app that transcends manufacturer boundaries to consolidate control and management of various home appliances and residential equipment—such as lighting, air conditioners, locks, water heaters, and curtains—into a single application. It is widely adopted in residences across Japan, including standard installations in new condominiums. Through continuous updates that expand compatible devices and features, HomeLink delivers the experience of being able to “update a home like a smartphone.”

Future Outlook

HomeLink has aimed to enable “updating a home like a smartphone.” With this latest update, its scope now extends beyond the walls of the residence to include the car. For properties equipped with smart home systems, the “smart life experience” that spans both home and mobility, including cars and travel, will become a new selling point for property value. Link Japan will continue to strengthen its partnerships with real estate developers and housing businesses.

For Media Representatives: Demonstrations Available

Link Japan offers demonstrations for media representatives, allowing them to witness firsthand the integrated control of both smart home devices (lighting, air conditioners, locks, etc.) and Tesla vehicle status monitoring and operation. Experience how “both home appliances and cars can be controlled with a single app” through live demonstrations.

  • In-person demonstration: Available near Link Japan’s Tokyo headquarters (Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo). A smart home environment and a physical Tesla vehicle will be provided. Detailed venue information will be shared individually with applying media outlets.

  • Online screen demonstration: Observe actual app operations via screen sharing.

  • Filming and recording: Supported.
