Buffalo Certified as “LiB Partner” by Ministry of the Environment to Promote Lithium-ion Battery Safety
Tokyo, Japan – September 16, 2026 – Buffalo Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Hirofumi Maki) announced today its certification as an “LiB Partner” by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment. The “LiB Partner” program recognizes local governments and businesses committed to raising awareness and preventing fire incidents caused by lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in various everyday products due to their compact size, light weight, high energy efficiency, and economic advantages. However, the number of fire accidents attributed to these batteries has been increasing. Buffalo, which handles products utilizing lithium-ion batteries, including mobile batteries, is dedicated to contributing to the prevention and reduction of such accidents. This is achieved through the development and provision of highly safe products, as well as by disseminating accurate information on proper usage and disposal methods.

Product Development of “Semi-Solid Mobile Batteries” to Suppress Fire Risk: From a product safety perspective, Buffalo is focusing on the development and widespread adoption of mobile batteries that utilize “semi-solid electrolytes.” This technology, unlike conventional liquid electrolytes, offers enhanced stability and structurally suppresses the risk of fire.
About the LiB Partner Program
The LiB Partner program is an initiative by the Ministry of the Environment aimed at preventing fire incidents caused by products using lithium-ion batteries. It certifies local governments and businesses that engage in activities related to:
- Raising awareness about the proper usage and disposal methods of lithium-ion batteries.
- Implementing measures and promoting awareness to reduce the risk of smoke and fire from lithium-ion batteries.
- Providing and disseminating information on how to respond if lithium-ion batteries emit smoke or catch fire.
