Apple Watch Band Transforms into a Charger: “EnergyLink Gen 2” Launches on Makuake
The “EnergyLink Gen 2,” an Apple Watch band that doubles as a charger, has officially launched for pre-order on Makuake. This second-generation charging band, which previously raised a total of 33 million JPY through international crowdfunding, is now making its debut in the Japanese market.
This innovative solution aims to alleviate the daily stress associated with charging Apple Watch devices. The “EnergyLink Gen 2” integrates magnetic wireless charging directly into the band itself, eliminating the need to carry a dedicated charging pad or cable, especially during travel or extended outings.
The band incorporates a 4.8W magnetic wireless charging module. By simply connecting a USB-C cable to the port on the side of the band, charging commences instantly. This design ensures that users can charge their Apple Watch without additional accessories, whether at home, on a business trip, or traveling. Furthermore, the band’s ability to act as a charger means it can also be used to charge friends’ or family members’ devices, making it a “shareable charging band.”
Gen 2 Evolves: Smaller, Faster, Lighter
The “EnergyLink Gen 2” features significant advancements over its predecessor. The internal structure, including the charging coil, has been redesigned, resulting in a 30% reduction in the volume of the built-in charging module. This creates a slimmer profile that naturally conforms to the wrist, integrating charging functionality without compromising comfort.
Additionally, a new titanium alloy model is now available. This material offers both high strength and lightweight properties, providing a comfortable wearing experience that is barely noticeable. Alongside the classic stainless steel model, users can choose between two materials to suit their style and usage scenarios.
Comfortable Material and High Stability with Double-Lock Structure
The band is crafted from “3D Air Jacquard weave,” utilizing ultra-fine, highly elastic nylon threads. This material offers excellent breathability, dissipating heat and moisture to prevent stuffiness during prolonged wear. Reflective fibers are also woven into the band, enhancing visibility at night.
For secure fastening, the band employs a “double-lock structure” combining magnetic adhesion with Velcro. This design ensures the band remains securely fastened even during sports or active use. With an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, the band can be used without concern for sweat or sudden rain.
Compatible with 38mm to 49mm Apple Watch Models
The “EnergyLink Gen 2” is compatible with Apple Watch models ranging from 38mm to 49mm.
It is available in three color variations: white, black, and brown. Two band lengths are offered, allowing for adjustment to fit various wrist sizes.
