R2R Ultra: The Evolved Form of R2R DAC Technology

The DX270 incorporates iBasso’s entirely new “R2R Hybrid Decoding Technology,” establishing its unique audio profile. This architecture utilizes a “20-bit R2R + 4-bit String DAC hybrid R2R architecture,” complemented by a full-balance 8-channel fully differential circuit, FPGA Master3.0 technology, and a hardware resistance compensation network.

Achieving flagship-class performance with a DNR of over 130dB and THD+N better than -97dB, the DX270 simultaneously eliminates the zero-cross distortion problem typical of R2R devices, which occurs when signals pass through zero. This ensures stable linearity even for minute signals, resulting in near-perfect linearity. This entire technological system is referred to as “R2R Ultra.”

FPGA Master3.0 Equipped

The DX270 is equipped with FPGA-Master3.0, developed based on iBasso’s extensive accumulated algorithms. The number of LUT logic units in version 3.0 is 7.5 times that of version 2.0. As the audio master, FPGA-Master3.0 can directly request data from the SoC and builds a perfectly synchronized single-clock source with two ultra-low-noise Accusilicon femto-clock crystal oscillators. This achieves nanosecond-precision control and minimizes jitter, preserving the digital signal in its purest state from the source.

Hardware Resistance Compensation Network

Proprietary FPGA algorithms and a hardware switching resistance compensation network dual-support decoding. The compensation network consists of a total of 76 precision resistors, significantly improving decoding accuracy and contributing to expanded dynamic range and reduced distortion. This “software + hardware” synergy allows R2R Ultra decoding to surpass the conventional performance limits of R2R.

DC-IN 12V External Power Input Support

When connected to a DC 12V power supply, the analog circuit voltage increases from ±8V to ±12V, activating “Super Gain Mode.” This mode achieves a maximum output of 1575mW + 1575mW @32Ω. The DX270’s driving performance is designed to accommodate various music genres, including classical, pop, and metal, and can easily drive full-size and high-impedance headphones.

Exceptional Linearity Performance: The Exquisite Ambiance of a Pitch-Black Night

Musical signals are complex waveforms composed of many frequency components. If a DAC’s output curve is not linear, extra non-linear distortion is added to the signal, causing unwanted harmonics, intermodulation distortion, and waveform distortion. While linearity determines the accuracy of DAC conversion, the DX270 achieves linearity performance that surpasses mainstream R2R devices on the market. This is due to highly consistent resistor matching, high-reliability switching accuracy, and an optimized circuit configuration. This means that the output curve precisely matches the ideal curve, without extra harmonics or waveform distortion, resulting in a pure, “pitch-black night” background and vivid tones that convey even the atmosphere of each instrument.
