Key Survey Findings
Daily “Finger Chores” Average Approximately 20 Times
The survey revealed that on working days, individuals perform an average of 5.6 “finger chores” related to turning lights on/off in rooms and toilets, and 4.7 for other remote control operations. Including opening/closing home locks, these daily home operations amount to an average of 19.5 times, indicating that modern individuals perform approximately 20 “finger chores” daily. Furthermore, 49.2% of respondents reported feeling burdened by these operations and confirmations.

Over 90% Experience “Did I Lock the Door?” Anxiety
When asked about experiences of feeling anxious whether they locked their home door after leaving, 19.2% answered “frequently,” 52.8% “sometimes,” and 19.0% “at least once.” Cumulatively, 90.9% of respondents have experienced this “did I lock the door?” anxiety.

“Did I Lock the Door?” Anxiety is Comparable to “Work Calls on Holidays”
The survey also measured the “Hiyari-do” (level of alarm/stress) for various daily occurrences. The top three were “dropping a smartphone on the ground” (5.2), “cannot find a smartphone after searching” (5.0), and “returning home on a hot day to find the room like a sauna” (4.8). Notably, the “Hiyari-do” for “feeling anxious about whether the home door was locked” (4.5) was almost identical to “receiving a call from work on a holiday” (4.6). This highlights that the anxiety about home security after leaving is a significant source of stress.

High Demand for Smart Lock Features for Peace of Mind
To reduce daily anxieties and inconveniences, respondents were asked about functions they would find useful. The most common responses were “ability to check lock status remotely” (42.7%) and “ability to check lock/unlock history” (40.1%). These results suggest a high demand for advanced home lock functionalities, particularly those offered by smart locks, to provide peace of mind.

SwitchBot’s New WEBCM and Brand Site: “Hiyari Hotto Zukan”
SwitchBot has launched new WEBCM series, “Ureshii Ouchi ni Switch!” (Switch to a Happy Home!), and a brand site called “Hiyari Hotto Zukan” (A Compendium of Startling and Reassuring Moments). These campaigns illustrate various “hiyari” (startling/anxious) moments in daily life, such as worrying about locked doors, lost keys, children’s safe return, or pets in a hot home. The campaigns demonstrate how SwitchBot’s smart locks and smart remotes can transform these anxieties into “hotto” (reassurance) and propose a comfortable smart home life, both inside and outside the home. Popular parenting influencer, Kinoshita Yuuki, with over 2 million social media followers, appears in the commercials.
