Torex Semiconductor Develops XC8115/XC8116 Series Multi-Function Load Switch ICs with Zero Current Consumption

Uncategorized

Zero Current Consumption for Enhanced Efficiency

A standout feature of the XC8115/XC8116 series is its ability to reduce power consumption significantly, achieving 0µA current consumption during both operation and standby. This makes the series an optimal choice for applications requiring minimal power loss, such as devices powered by small batteries or those utilizing energy harvesting. Furthermore, the ICs can operate independently without the need for input/output capacitors, contributing to space-saving implementations.

Traditionally, ON/OFF control of power lines often involves combining discrete components. With the XC8115/XC8116 series, it is possible to construct a simple and compact ON/OFF circuit with 0µA current consumption.

Diverse Functions for Specific Applications

The series incorporates various functions tailored to different application needs, including external adjustment of soft-start, CL discharge (XC8115 for rapid output capacitor discharge), and reverse current prevention during OFF-state (XC8116).

XC8115 Series: For Power Sequence Control

The XC8115 series features external soft-start adjustment and CL discharge. These capabilities enable its use in power sequence control required for FPGAs and MCUs.

XC8116 Series: For Backup Circuits and Power Multiplexing

The XC8116 series includes a reverse current prevention function when the switch is OFF. This feature is beneficial for backup circuits, preventing reverse current to the backup power supply. Additionally, it offers two types of enable logic (EN/ENB: positive/negative logic), allowing two power systems to be switched with a single control signal, thereby simplifying and reducing the space required for power multiplexer circuits.

Protection Features and Compact Packaging

Both the XC8115 and XC8116 series allow for external adjustment of the soft-start time using a capacitor. This feature helps suppress inrush current and prevent voltage drops during startup, especially when using high-impedance batteries like coin cells. For protection, the devices are equipped with short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown (overheat protection), ensuring safe circuit operation even if the load side experiences a short-circuit condition.

The ICs are available in small, low-profile DFN1515-6A (1.5 x 1.5 x h0.38mm) and highly mountable SOT-25 packages. This makes them suitable for a wide range of applications, from compact devices requiring high-density mounting to industrial equipment demanding mounting reliability.
