The “Hikari Reform D180D” and “D180N” models are designed with a widely used E26 base, offering a total luminous flux of 3,000lm. The D180D provides a daylight color temperature of 6,500K, while the D180N offers a daylight white color temperature of 5,000K, allowing users to choose according to their space and preference. When expressing D180 as “equivalent to approximately 180W incandescent bulb,” it is noted on the same display surface that this is a company conversion based on total luminous flux, to avoid misunderstanding that the power consumption is 180W.

The “Hikari Reform S100N” features an E17 base, a total luminous flux of 1,430lm, and a daylight white color temperature of 5,000K. The Japan Lighting Manufacturers Association’s guidebook indicates that 1,430lm or more is the guideline for an E17 base small incandescent bulb equivalent to 100W, a value that the S100N matches. Its compact dimensions are 85mm in height and 45mm in diameter, making it suitable for locations where brightness options for E17 bases are often limited, such as washrooms, entrances, corridors, staircases, brackets, and downlights.

Luminous Flux Maintenance: Beyond Initial Brightness

Unlike incandescent bulbs that suddenly burn out when the filament breaks, LED bulbs gradually decrease in luminous flux over time. Therefore, it is crucial to consider not only the initial total luminous flux but also how well the brightness is maintained after long hours of use. The rated life of LED lamps is defined in JIS C 8157 as the period during which the luminous flux maintains 70% or more of its initial luminous flux under specified conditions. This means that a “40,000-hour” rating refers to a concept of life that includes light degradation, not merely whether it illuminates.

D180N Achieves 94% Luminous Flux Maintenance at 40,000 Hours

For the D180N model, a third-party test report issued by a TAF-accredited laboratory shows a luminous flux maintenance rate of 94% at 40,000 hours. This means that if the initial luminous flux is 100, it still maintains 94 at 40,000 hours. The difference from the 70% used in the JIS C 8157 rated life definition is 24 percentage points. While this is approximately 34% higher when compared relatively to 70%, it is not expressed as “34 percentage points higher.” The company prioritizes the expression “exceeds 70% by 24 percentage points” in headings and figures to prevent misunderstandings.

It is important to note that TAF is an organization that accredits the competence of testing laboratories based on ISO/IEC 17025, rather than a product certification body. Therefore, the company does not label products as “TAF certified products” but rather states “tested by a TAF-accredited laboratory” or “based on test reports issued by a TAF-accredited laboratory.”

TTR and TTA: Advanced Thermal Management for High Brightness

The products incorporate TTR (Tunneling Thermal Resistance), a fundamental technology developed in 2011. This technology was born from research into a new heat transfer concept called “Thermal Tunneling.” TTR creates low thermal resistance heat transfer paths through specially designed thermal conduction channels, rapidly dissipating thermal energy from high heat generation areas and suppressing localized heat accumulation.

However, with the increasing power output and density of next-generation electronic devices, simply reducing thermal resistance is becoming insufficient to address new heat dissipation challenges. Rated Life of 40,000 Hours and a 5-Year Warranty

All three models have a rated life of 40,000 hours. Simple calculation suggests this is approximately 10.9 years if lit for 10 hours a day. However, actual conditions may vary depending on ambient temperature, fixture structure, number of on/off cycles, power environment, and mounting orientation. Therefore, the company does not claim “no replacement needed for 10 years” or “guaranteed to last for 10 years.” The 5-year warranty from the date of product arrival is a system that provides replacement in case of malfunction under normal use, based on the warranty regulations. Rated life, luminous flux maintenance rate, and warranty period each have distinct meanings.

High-Brightness LED Bulbs Require Fixture Condition Verification

This series is designed to be compatible with enclosed fixtures, bathroom fixtures, and insulation-compatible fixtures, but this does not imply unconditional use in all fixtures. The fixture’s rated conditions, internal dimensions, mounting orientation, and usage environment should take precedence. These bulbs are not compatible with dimmable fixtures. The D180 measures 132mm in height and 70mm in diameter, while the S100N measures 85mm in height and 45mm in diameter. Therefore, it is necessary to check not only the base type but also the inner dimensions of covers and shades. Additionally, as these products do not support dimming functionality, they may not operate correctly with dimmable fixtures.
