Accelerating Commercial Deployment through Strategic Partnerships

In the smart transportation sector, IRIS Optronics partnered with Askey Computer to deploy smart poles and smart bus stops, which are now implemented in multiple cities across Taiwan. The company also collaborated with system integrators Green Ideas Technology and GiantPlus to expand into parking meters and outdoor signage applications. Panel manufacturer Solomon Goldentek Display exhibited a modular tiling display in collaboration with IRIS Optronics, demonstrating a scalable path to large displays using existing production lines.

In healthcare, implementations at Taichung Veterans General Hospital and Taipei City Hospital demonstrated that e-paper solutions reduce staff workload and enhance real-time information accuracy. IRIS Optronics also introduced in-vehicle advertising e-paper solutions, expanding their use for digital media applications in MRT and high-speed rail systems.

Debut of ecosticker™: Bringing True Full-Color e-Paper Indoors

At the exhibition, IRIS Optronics officially launched the ecosticker™ digital photo frame, extending full-color ChLCD e-Paper technology from outdoor and public uses to indoor living spaces. This 10-inch device overcomes the limitations of traditional e-paper, featuring extended battery life, near-zero power consumption, and vibrant full-color performance with over 16 million colors. Weighing 955 grams and requiring no power outlet, the ecosticker™ can be easily installed in homes, galleries, and retail stores. Its launch signifies the entry of ChLCD e-Paper into indoor applications, offering new solutions for paperless displays and energy-efficient lifestyles.

Exploring the Future of ChLCD at the International Forum

On the first day, IRIS Optronics hosted the “New Era of ChLCD e-Paper Forum,” bringing together global experts from academia and industry to discuss emerging trends and opportunities.

Dr. Albert Liao opened the forum with a keynote speech titled “ChLCD Overturns The Display Application Landscape, Creating A New Blue Ocean Market,” emphasizing how this technology creates new market opportunities.

The speakers included:

  • Dr. Asad Khan, CEO, Kent Displays (USA): “Evolution of Cholesteric Display Technologies and The Romance With Consumer Products”

  • Mr. Osamu Nakahashi, Chairman, CO-WIN (Japan): “Silent Screens Transforming Stations, Cities, and Factories: The World Opened by Cholesteric e-Paper”

  • Associate Professor Kishi Takahiro, University of Tsukuba (Japan): “From Visualization to Action: Revolutionizing Risk Delivery via Next-Gen Digital Interfaces”

  • Mr. George Chang, Director, Askey Computer: “e-Paper Driving New Smart City Infrastructure — Cross-Domain Implementation by Askey Computer”

During his presentation, Mr. Osamu Nakahashi, Chairman of CO-WIN Corporation, suggested that new media such as e-paper will become mainstream for future advertising, potentially evolving into “infrastructure media” integrated with public infrastructure. These media are expected to be low-power and environmentally friendly, delivering information subtly while complying with SDGs and regulations. Furthermore, they are anticipated to play a public role, such as providing information during disasters, merging advertising with social infrastructure.

Associate Professor Kishi Takahiro of the University of Tsukuba, Japan, noted in his lecture that while risk assessment has expanded, industrial accidents continue to rise. The issue lies not in the knowledge of risk, but in how it is communicated. The crucial shift is from “visualization” to “communication that leads to understanding and action.” Digital technologies like e-paper can facilitate this transformation, enabling more effective and interactive communication.

Cholesteric Liquid Crystal e-Paper Industry Network

Following the forum, IRIS Optronics hosted the “ChLCD Industry Network Dinner,” gathering approximately 100 partners across materials, manufacturing, system integration, and application sectors. This network aims to accelerate the global adoption of ChLCD e-Paper through promoting collaborations, providing sustainable and cost-effective display solutions.
