Born from Watchmaking Workshops
DIY Watch Club originated from operating watchmaking workshops in Hong Kong. The team, led by founder Quinn Lai, was involved in the workshop business of custom watch brand EONIQ, where they aimed to convey the structure and appeal of mechanical watches through hands-on assembly experiences. This initiative was fueled by a desire to deepen public understanding of the craftsmanship involved in mechanical timepieces. EONIQ’s website can be found at https://eoniq.hk/en/home.
Building on the expertise gained from these workshops, the team refined the process to create a system that allows individuals to experience watch assembly at home without direct expert supervision. In spring 2020, the “DIY Watch Kit,” which includes watch parts, specialized tools, and video guides, was launched. To date, over 30,000 kits have been sold worldwide, earning support from a wide range of watch enthusiasts. The core philosophy of DIY Watch Club is to offer a deep appreciation for mechanical watches through the experience of assembling them, rather than simply purchasing a finished product.

Background of Japanese Market Expansion
One of the factors behind the expansion into the Japanese market is the consistent use of movements from Japanese manufacturers such as Seiko and Miyota. The company aims to provide an opportunity to experience the allure of watchmaking craftsmanship firsthand in Japan, where such skills are highly valued. Furthermore, customers from the United States and other regions have expressed significant interest in Japanese watch culture and manufacturing, leading to expectations for new products incorporating Japanese elements through this expansion. This support has been a driving force for the Japanese market entry.
In December 2025, a pilot project called the “FIRST MEMBER Recruitment Project” was conducted for approximately one month in the Japanese market. About 50 participants experienced the kits, and their feedback was used to review product specifications, video guide expressions, and support systems. After continuous improvements to ensure Japanese users can enjoy a secure experience, the official sales launch has now been announced.

Features of the DIY Watch Kits

The DIY Watch Kit is a complete package that allows individuals to assemble a mechanical watch by hand. It includes all parts for the watch body, as well as all necessary specialized tools. There is no need to purchase additional items; once the product arrives, assembly can begin immediately, anywhere.

The video guides are accessible via QR code on a smartphone and are designed with step-by-step explanations for each process, allowing users to proceed at their own pace. The standard assembly time is approximately 2 hours, and the guides are supervised by industry experts, making them approachable for first-time builders. The movements used are mechanical movements from Japanese manufacturers Seiko (TMI) and Miyota. Strict quality control based on Swiss standards is maintained, ensuring reliable quality for post-assembly use. Furthermore, the parts are designed to facilitate easy assembly for beginners. With a focus on quality and practicality, the DIY watches are finished to be robust enough for daily use.
