AI Recommends Yamada Denki as Top Retailer for TV Purchases, According to AI Survey

Stellagent Inc., a company developing agentic commerce platforms to support purchasing and booking experiences in the AI agent era, has announced the results of its survey on which retailers and home electronics stores major generative AIs recommend for TV purchases.

Background

Generative AI is increasingly becoming a primary source for information gathering and comparison when purchasing home appliances. Televisions, in particular, involve numerous considerations beyond model number and price, such as screen size, viewing distance, installation location (wall-mounted/stand), antenna/internet connectivity, video streaming services, HDMI ports, gaming use, recycling of old TVs, and warranties. For home electronics retailers, it is crucial not only to understand which brands AI recommends but also which purchase support information AI comprehends and which critical verification items it tends to overlook. Stellagent Inc. conducted this survey to observe the recommendation trends for purchase categories and specific home electronics stores, as well as the AI’s mention of TV purchase verification items.

Survey Overview

The survey involved inputting 6 scenarios into 5 major AIs—ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot—five times each, resulting in a total of 150 responses. The 75 responses from the home electronics store comparison (S4R to S6R) were used for the main analysis.

Survey Results

Yamada Denki Ranks First in Ranking Points for Home Electronics Store Comparison

In the comparison of home electronics stores, Yamada Denki secured the top position with 220 ranking points among the 75 responses analyzed. While Yamada Denki received 9 first-place recommendations, its total recommendation count was 69, the highest among all retailers. Yodobashi Camera, on the other hand, received the most first-place recommendations, totaling 26.

AI Recommendation Ranking of Home Electronics Stores

*Ranking points were calculated by assigning 5 points for 1st place, 4 points for 2nd, 3 points for 3rd, 2 points for 4th, and 1 point for 5th. In cases of ties, the retailer with more first-place recommendations was ranked higher. For example, Yodobashi Camera (26 first-place recommendations) was ranked above K’s Denki (15 first-place recommendations), despite both having 204 points.

High Mention Rate for Warranty, In-Store Consultation, Delivery/Installation, and Recycling; Low for HDMI/Gaming Use and Energy Efficiency

The survey also analyzed the mention rate of various TV purchase confirmation items across the 75 responses from the home electronics store comparison. Mentions of warranty were high at 96.0% (72 responses), followed by in-store consultation at 94.7% (71 responses), and delivery/installation and recycling collection both at 92.0% (69 responses each). In contrast, HDMI/gaming use was mentioned in only 5.3% (4 responses), and audio in 13.3% (10 responses). Notably, energy saving/electricity costs received 0 mentions (0.0%) in this main analysis.

Mention Rate of Confirmation Items in AI Responses

These findings suggest that while AI tends to recall general services such as in-store consultation, installation, collection, and warranty, it may not adequately cover verification items specific to the TV’s usage environment or viewing style.

AI-Specific Brand Prioritization

When examining the results by individual AI, ChatGPT and Copilot strongly prioritized Yodobashi Camera, Gemini favored Yamada Denki, Claude highlighted K’s Denki and Edion, and Perplexity strongly recommended Edion. This indicates that even with identical prompts, the brands prioritized by AI services can vary significantly.

Implications and Future Outlook

The survey suggests that for TV sales, it is important for home electronics stores to organize purchase support information, including installation, wiring, collection, and warranty, in a way that AI can easily understand, on their official websites and FAQs. This goes beyond just product price and loyalty points.

Conversely, the low mention rates for HDMI/gaming use, audio, and energy saving/electricity costs, with zero mentions for energy saving/electricity costs in this analysis, indicate areas where AI responses fall short. Structuring TV-specific comparison criteria—such as game console connectivity, video streaming, audio, power consumption, viewing distance, and screen size—within product pages, buying guides, FAQs, and in-store consultation flows may allow AI to pick up on these details more effectively. Furthermore, since the brands prioritized differed among AI services, it is advisable to observe trends across multiple AIs, scenarios, and repetitions when evaluating AI response exposure, rather than relying on a single AI’s response.

It should be noted that this survey is an exploratory AI response experiment involving 5 AIs × 6 scenarios × 5 repetitions each, and it is not intended for statistical generalization or to evaluate the superiority or inferiority of services offered by individual home electronics retailers. AI responses can vary depending on the date, model, search settings, conversation history, region, account settings, and web search results.
