Nordic Semiconductor Expands nRF54L Series with New Multiprotocol SoC for Small, Cost-Effective IoT Devices

Comprehensive Wireless Capabilities in a Small Form Factor

The entry-level nRF54LC10A is the smallest ultra-low-power multiprotocol SoC in the nRF54L Series. It integrates a simple MCU and a multiprotocol radio into a 1.9 × 2.3 mm chip-scale package (CSP). The SoC features 1 MB of non-volatile memory (NVM), 192 KB of RAM, and peripherals suitable for simple connected products. It also includes advanced security features, Arm® TrustZone® isolation, and protection against physical attacks. Furthermore, it supports Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) and remote monitoring via Nordic’s nRF Cloud service, enabling developers to meet regulatory requirements and maintain continuous security and management of products after deployment.

All devices in the nRF54L Series utilize the same certified wireless stacks, embedded software, and development tools, allowing developers to easily scale and upgrade designs as requirements evolve.

Designed for Small IoT Devices and Mass Deployment

The nRF54LC10A primarily targets two application areas. The first is Bluetooth LE devices, which are expected to constitute the majority of nRF54LC10A deployments. Its compact size, competitive cost, and support for Bluetooth Channel Sounding make it particularly suitable for asset trackers. It can also accommodate a wide range of Bluetooth LE products requiring low power consumption and miniaturization.

The second area is smart home applications. This includes Thread and Zigbee-enabled accessories, as well as relatively simple Matter-enabled sensors that can be implemented with the nRF54LC10A’s memory capacity. The nRF54LC10A can also be used as a Thread Radio Co-Processor (RCP) in home hub and Thread Border Router designs. When combined with a host application processor or MCU, it provides reliable Thread connectivity.

Low-Power Design for Extended Storage

Equipped with a 128 MHz Arm Cortex®-M33 core and a RISC-V coprocessor, the nRF54LC10A incorporates 1 MB of NVM, 192 KB of RAM, and essential peripherals consisting of three SPI/TWI/UART interfaces and an ADC. Preliminary performance figures are 239 CoreMark®/mA and 503 CoreMark. Like other products in the nRF54L Series, it achieves ultra-low-power operation through a 22 nm process node, Nordic’s proprietary low-leakage RAM, and a multiprotocol radio design. The radio consumes 4.0 mA in receive mode and 5.8 mA in transmit mode at 0 dBm, with a maximum transmit power of +4 dBm. Receive sensitivity is -97 dBm for Bluetooth LE 1M and -101 dBm for 802.15.4. Sleep mode current consumption ranges from 0.5 µA to 1.6 µA. Three package types are available, including two 1.9 × 2.3 mm chip-scale packages (CSP) and a QFN, offering the smallest footprint in the series.

Availability

The nRF54LC10A is currently available for sampling, with mass production scheduled for Q2 2027. Development kits are expected to be generally available by Q1 2027. For samples and early access development kits, please contact Nordic’s domestic sales representatives or authorized distributors.
