Advanced Multi-Display Capabilities
The VL610 is engineered for USB-C docking stations and high-end video adapter applications, featuring a DP 2.1 HBR3 Multi-Stream Transport (MST) hub controller. It offers significantly enhanced display performance compared to the VL605. The VL610 series includes the VL610, which supports three video outputs, and the VL610D, which supports two video outputs, catering to diverse docking design requirements. Its architecture integrates one fixed HDMI 2.1 FRL transmitter, one configurable port supporting DP++ or HDMI 2.1 FRL, and (for VL610 only) one configurable port supporting DP++ or HDMI TMDS.
High Resolution and Refresh Rate Support
The VL610 supports a single display output of up to 8K/60Hz or 4K/240Hz. For simultaneous output, it can handle up to three displays at 4K/60Hz or QHD/144Hz. The controller can process up to six independent audio and video streams and supports up to four MST streams on a single DisplayPort output. Full support for color formats and audio is included, aiming to deliver a high-quality multimedia experience.
Integrated Advanced Features
Equipped with a built-in DSC 1.2a decoder, the VL610 supports decoding to HDMI output and direct passthrough to compatible displays. It also features cross-platform Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support, which is designed to ensure smooth visuals for high-end gaming consoles and professional image processing applications. Furthermore, the VL610 includes integrated ECDSA-256 asymmetric authentication for secure firmware updates and protection against malicious cyberattacks.
Unique User Experience Enhancements
VIA Labs VL610 MST Hub Controller
The VL610 incorporates a unique logo bitmap display function with event-triggered graphics. This feature allows for the display of brand logos, warning messages, or guidance screens in situations such as host disconnection, USB-C port anomalies, or link errors. This capability enables active communication with users during idle states or fault conditions, which can enhance both brand recognition and user experience.
Wayne Chang, Product Marketing Director at VLI, stated that the VL610 marks a significant milestone in VLI’s multi-display signal conversion technology. He noted that by evolving the single-stream HDMI 2.1 output supported by the VL605 into a triple-stream architecture, the company has addressed customer needs and achieved product innovation. The VL610 is positioned to be a core chipset for next-generation high-end USB-C docking stations, and it is expected to further strengthen VLI’s leadership in USB-C display interface solutions.
VLI will showcase its products at Computex 2026, booth N0614, in Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 1.
