Morse Micro Introduces Wi-Fi HaLow USB Adapter Reference Designs for Extended Edge AI Connectivity
Sydney, Australia – August 21, 2026 – Morse Micro PTY. LTD., a global leader in Wi-Fi HaLow chip technology, today announced the availability of two Wi-Fi HaLow USB adapter reference designs. These designs are intended to provide long-range Wi-Fi HaLow connectivity to existing devices through a straightforward USB connection.
Both reference designs integrate Morse Micro’s MM8108 System-on-Chip (SoC), enabling developers to leverage Wi-Fi HaLow capabilities across a broad spectrum of existing devices. Wi-Fi HaLow networks offer native IP connectivity over distances up to one kilometer, opening new possibilities for edge AI applications.
MM8108-RD09 Reference Design for Versatile Connectivity
The MM8108-RD09 reference design provides native Wi-Fi HaLow connectivity for a wide array of devices, including Access Points (AP) and Station (STA) products. OpenWRT drivers are available to enable Wi-Fi HaLow functionality on existing routers and APs equipped with a USB interface. For client devices, native applications for Windows, Linux, and macOS allow users to connect to Wi-Fi HaLow networks with the same ease as traditional Wi-Fi.

MM8108-RD17 Reference Design for Driver-Free Integration
The MM8108-RD17 reference design facilitates Wi-Fi HaLow integration into a broader range of client products without requiring driver installation on the host. When connected, this Wi-Fi HaLow USB adapter is recognized by the host as a standard CDC-NCM Ethernet interface. This feature enables Wi-Fi HaLow connectivity for devices such as industrial computers, robots, POS terminals, and tablets and smartphones running Android or iOS. Device authentication can be performed via Wi-Fi Easy Connect (DPP) using a pairing button.

Top-tier customers can obtain the schematics and software for both the MM8108-RD09 and MM8108-RD17 reference designs by contacting Morse Micro’s sales representatives.
Michael De Nil, Co-Founder and CEO of Morse Micro, stated, “These USB adapter reference designs are expected to significantly accelerate the adoption of Wi-Fi HaLow. The MM8108-RD09 design allows internet service providers to upgrade existing wireless routers, offering kilometer-range Wi-Fi connectivity to their customers. Meanwhile, the MM8108-RD17 design brings Wi-Fi HaLow connectivity to existing devices like laptops, smartphones, and tablets across vast areas without requiring additional software updates.”
