SwitchBot Secures Top Share in 4 Key IoT Device Categories in Japan
SWITCHBOT Corporation, a company specializing in IoT and smart home solutions, has announced that its SwitchBot products have achieved the estimated top share in all four major domestic IoT device categories: smart locks, smart curtains, smart remotes, and smart plugs. This finding is based on a market survey conducted by KadenBiz in April 2026.
SwitchBot has consistently focused on providing an accessible smart home experience, enabling users to leverage existing homes and appliances. The brand has surpassed 2 million households in Japan and over 5 million cumulative unit sales, establishing itself as the No. 1 smart home brand by cumulative IoT device sales, with a presence in over 100 countries and regions worldwide.
This achievement is attributed to the continuous support from SwitchBot users, retailers, and partners. The company is committed to further promoting smart home experiences that integrate seamlessly into daily life, reducing everyday burdens.
Estimated Top Share in Major Domestic IoT Device Categories
According to the survey by KadenBiz conducted in April 2026, the domestic IoT device market for the four major categories—smart plugs, smart curtains, smart remotes, and smart locks—was estimated to be approximately 1.47 million units and 11.4 billion JPY in sales value in 2025.
SwitchBot’s estimated market shares were approximately 60% for smart plugs, 90% for smart curtains, 60% for smart remotes, and 70% for smart locks, securing the top position in all four categories.
Among these, smart locks were estimated to have the largest market size, with approximately 5.8 billion JPY in sales value in 2025. This growth is supported by increasing crime prevention awareness and the ease of installation without major construction, even in rental properties. SwitchBot has expanded its smart lock lineup to include products such as Lock, Lock Pro, and Lock Ultra, offering options suitable for various living environments.

Reasons for Being Chosen: Easy-to-Start “Automation for Life” with Retrofitting
SwitchBot has focused on offering a smart home experience that can be easily initiated by retrofitting existing homes and appliances. Devices such as switches, curtains, remotes, locks, sensors, and cameras can be connected through a single app, gradually expanding automation across the entire home while alleviating minor daily inconveniences.

Furthermore, SwitchBot has actively created opportunities for customers to experience smart homes firsthand through demonstrations and special displays at electronics retailers nationwide. By allowing customers to interact with products and try out operations, those considering smart homes for the first time can more concretely envision their post-installation lives.
This ease of introduction and scalability, combined with engagement through both online and offline channels, and continuous improvements reflecting Japanese living environments and user feedback, are considered key reasons why SwitchBot has been chosen by consumers.
Beyond Smart Homes: Evolution into AI and Robotics
Building on the connectivity and user base cultivated through IoT devices, SwitchBot envisions a new lifestyle by integrating AI and robotics. The goal is to evolve from smart homes that merely react to user commands to those where AI understands living situations and contexts, proactively assisting with necessary operations and actions.
SwitchBot aims for a future where AI seamlessly integrates into daily life, work, and living spaces, reducing the burden of housework, monitoring, security, and environmental management. The company will continue to develop products that create more time and mental space for individuals.
